Famous Subs & Pizza in Soutdport

Nice restaurant type of prices, bad restaurant type of food. If you call to pick up an order, the food will seem like it's been sitting out for a long time, microwaved and then set out again to become hard and stale. The waitresses however are top-notch. the funny part is that the cooks in the back will look you right in the eye while they're messing up your food. Lol

The best Italian restaurant in three counties. Closed on Sunday get here at 5 before the rush. I love the anchovie calzone!!!

Second try...horribly overcooked fried chicken. Threw most of it out. Do not bother!!!!!

I asked if they could please make my daughter a sub with bacon lettuce and mayo and I was rudley told no. "If it's not on the menu I ain't making it" is what they said. It's a sub shop. They have all 3 of the ingredients to do so. Wow. Nice customer service. Won't be back.

My family ordered spaghetti with mushrooms, meat lovers pizza, Italian sub, and Greek salad. Salad was tasty and a good size, my stepson said the sub was a 8/10 and he would choose it over several places, andtand pizza was yummy. The spaghetti was just ok. The flavor was good but not amazing and it needs a lot more sauce. For about 2-3 cups of noodles there was only a thin covering of sauce. Definitely not worth $10. And the drive thru....fewwww....no idea how they are doing things but we waited and waited in line. Not sure if you place orders and wait for your food in the same line as customers picking up to go orders but they should really work something else out. I would have gave 3 stars bc of the drive thru situation but I don't want to assume I know what was going on that day.

It was my first time there and I was very pleased. The atmosphere is good, the people are friendly and the food tasted good.

Great sandwiches/ subs. I have never had the pizzas or the fried chicken both look very good also. Very friendly staff and fast service. Reasonably priced and generous servings.

Our favorite place to go for good cheese pizza, fried chicken and a family friendly atmosphere.

This place is amazing. The steak subs were to die for. No subway is needed out there for sure. The fried chicken was great too. I have no real complaints with this place. Service was very friendly and helpful. I'll definitely go again next time in I'm town.

I came here and didn't order a sub or pizza, and it was incredible. I was on vacation so I don't know if I'll get the chance to go again, but it was amazing while I was there. Make it a top choice.

My favorite place on the island, awesome salads and subs, chicken parmesan and steak and cheese sub with salad, they make their own bread, allmost eveything made from scratch, yum yum....

I have never gotten anything at famous that wasn't great .

I really appreciate this place. They have a good menu of American food fare. They have some good fried chicken, but it is a bit pricey for what they offer. The service is normally good, although there have been some times that the wait time was a bit excessive for the amount of people there. All in all, I can see why this establishment is a staple of the community. I can say for certain that I haven't been disappointed w/ this place. Whenever you're in the area, give them a try, but be sure to bring your wallet. I'd the food worth the money? I'll leave that judgment up to you.

DISHONEST SERVICE! A worker there decided to add their own tip, a $20 tip on a $37 bill, after the slip was signed and we left. This was in the drive through! Thank goodness we follow our bank account. The manager did refund the $20, but tried to insist we actually left a 56% tip. Management can't control a worker's actions but certainly should take fraud more seriously than they expressed to us. The food's alright, but not worth getting robbed over.

Food is good. Place is small. Staff all have great attitudes.

For covid I like to share my money with small businesses instead of chain eateries. However if I could give no stars, I would. Called four times, line was busy, drove around building, tapped on the window to see three employees, no phone in hand. I hand signaled that their line was busy. The female immediately picked up phone, asked for our order, we said, we didn’t know what to order, there is no menu. She hung up phone, brought a menu to the car, and said, she would not wait by the line for us to decide. She stated people call ahead, I said, “true, but I don’t live here, and I had tried calling while at drive up”. Found my order on paper menu that was given, Literally wanted a turkey sub with cheese. I attempted to call twice more, line was busy again, and yet I still saw not one phone in anyone’s hand. I was so confused, I just left. Obviously they are not in need of my money, or they would have been polite and just taken my order. Won’t be back, my suggestion, neither should you.

After reading the reviews I decided to go elsewhere. I’m on vacation and don’t know the area and I see the locals bad mouthing this place for rudeness as an owner who don’t seem to care about it. You lost my business.

Maybe they were just having a bad night, but we sat there for over an hour waiting for your food and ended up just leaving. We weren't the only ones. The places was pretty packed, the drive thru had quite a few cars, the phone was ringing off the hook, but there wasnt awhole lot of food coming out of the kitchen!

The food has always been great for years. Eventhough I have been there in years it still taste the same. Keep up the great work!

Excellent place for lunch. I think they have the best gyros in town but my mama would say they have the best chicken pita!

The name says it all. Their pizza is excellent. While it may be a bit more expensive than your chain pizza joints, it’s worth the price. Plus, you’re supporting a solid local business. We tried several of their pizzas during our stay, as well as the calzones. The dipping sauce provided with the calzones was too chunky for my liking, but everything else was great. We enjoyed the pizza so much the first time that we returned for a late night snack the next night. The staff were all very friendly and we chatted for a while. Would definitely recommend.

The only positive experience about this place is the front of house. The waitresses are very nice and sweet however don't go here unless you want to wait over an hour for really nasty food. The last time we went we ordered a salad two orders of spaghetti one with meatballs and a pastrami sandwich. The spaghetti was like glue the sauce was so dry I was wondering if they use old ketchup. The meatballs were sliced in two discs and not very good. My son had no problem with his pastrami but it took us 45 minutes to get those dishes. My husband ordered a chef salad and it came out last and we waited an hour and 10 minutes for that. Other people in the restaurant had the same problem. I am a local and will never set foot in here again purely because of the kitchen.

I don't get the rave reviews. Stopped in here after driving by for years and was sorely disappointed. Prices are high for what you get, cleanliness was lacking (it was the lunch rush though), and the meatball sub I ordered was just there pizza sauce with meatballs in over baked bread with a small thing of potato chips. Waitresses did seem to know and talk to the regulars, but considering the conversations from them while sitting right behind me, I don't think I would become a regular. If you want a sub them go to Subway for a better and cheaper alternative.

Aside from the friendly experience, the greatest part about Famous is how consistent the food is. Famous always serves great quality food that is prepared well. There is a reason this establishment has stood the test of time, and we are so thankful Southport has Famous. It will forever be the go-to for their menu diversity and food quality.

Love this place.. its old.. kind looks funny/nostalgic like a place your grand dad would take you.. but has great subs... I never leave the area when I visit without grabbing an Italian sub from this place. Love the super thin shredded lettuce! I will be back

We have visited Oak Island frequently since 1993 and we had never tried this place until tonight. This has to be the best pizza that we have ever had on the island or in Southport. Totally fresh and great flavor. Our daughter in law had the spaghetti and said that is was really good. The place was really busy but the service was quick and friendly and they really seemed to appreciate our business. Cant wait to see them in September and October.

NASTY AND RUDE.....I recently ordered two large pies from this place since I had unexpected company...Upon my arrival home I was astounded and embarrassed to open the box and find two pizzas half the size of the box...The box was large the pizzas were small...I took pictures of the evidence and armed with the receipt I went in to speak with the owner....He looked at my pictures, looked me on the eye and insisted they were large pies and there’s always “shrinkage”...On all the years of ordering pies I’ve never seen shrinkage half the size of the box...I never asked him for a refund, didn’t have the chance. He simply walked away and went into the kitchen leaving me sitting there...I’ve never seen such rudeness towards a customer in my life....I will never support this establishment again and I will suggest anyone I speak to don’t either...This dude needs a lesson in civility...

I absolutely love this place! The food from their pizza to there subs (which are the best in town in my humble opinion) as well as their gyros are great. The staff is great food is put out in a timely fashion and its always a good atmosphere. The best thing is they have never screwed up my order! Ive been going there for over 7 years so that says a lot.

No one does a pizza like this EVER!! Ordered a pizza tonight..the smell..the odor...the taste...never go out of business...FANTASTIC!!!!!
